Ashley Hamel
Ashley Aisyah Hamel is an American-Indonesian singer-songwriter. A consummate performer with an improv comedy and theater background, The Hartford Courant once called her "sort of Lisa Loeb meets Tenacious D." Versatile songs are powered by deft finger-style picking, strong rhythmic strumming, and an undeniably powerful voice. Hamel picked up the acoustic guitar at age 15 in order to start writing songs, but, after a university detour, committed to her musical endeavors in 2014 with the release of her first EP, "By the Window." A great lover of books, in 2019 she released "W.Z.R.D.," a full-length concept album set in the Harry Potter universe. And in 2020, wishing to celebrate her Indonesian heritage and highlight the diasporic experience, Hamel released the single "Keluarga" with an accompanying music video. Ashley is currently based in Jakarta and will make a special appearance for Make Music Day CT.
